EYFS ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013

SUMMER TERM

We are looking forward to our spring and growth topic in which we will  find out what a plant needs to grow and planting our own sunflowers, cress and vegetables in an outdoor area.
We have planted and grown our very own Jack in the Beanstalk beans. We have weeded the growing bed and planted them out.  How high will the grow?!!

We will have an opportunity to go pond dipping focusing on the life cycle of the frog.

Our teddy topic will follow with a scrumptious picnic and talking about why our teddies are special to us.
After half term we begin to learn about mini beasts with a fabulous trip to Bishops Wood.

Will study many different forms of transport, by land, air, water and space travel.

ARTIST VISIT

Mrs Heppner kindly came to school to demonstrate painting with watercolour paints.  The children were inspired to create their own pictures.

SPRING TERM

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you and your families please find a snap shot of this term. We will be looking at suitable clothing for wet/cold/warm days in conjunction with the weather. Why not take this opportunity to discuss suitable choices with your child as you dress in the mornings.

As part of our community cohesion RHS welcomed a group of St George's C of E Primary School children to have a look around our school, play in our EYFS area and enjoy a drink and biscuits.  We will be able to visit St George's in the near future.

We will be carrying out lots of science investigations and will be inviting you to our science workshop on Wednesday 13th February. Visit the Whole School page to see photographs of our WOW Science week.

We will be studying and enjoying role play areas linked to the Chinese New Year which starts on Sunday 10th February. The year of The Snake.

We made fans coloured in snakes had a go at Chinese writing and here is the start of our dragons head!

During the second half of the spring term we will be looking at growth. What things are needed for growth and how to look after plants. There will also be some very exciting dinosaur adventures!!

One of the dinosaur eggs has hatched, large footprints were discovered on the carpet and we think it escaped through a window!  We have created our own dinosaur landscape using a paint programme on the computers and used the stamp tool to choose pictures of dinosaurs.

Weather
We have started our weather topic with perfect timing as the snow descended.  We have been talking about words to describe the cold, made our own snow flakes and used a software programme to create our own weather forecasts.
There have been some very exciting cookery lessons.

AUTUMN TERM
The children have begun to settle in well at school. They are able to organise their coats, lunchboxes and are beginning to change their reading books independently.

We started the term with a topic on Nursery Rhymes. The children enjoyed singing and dancing to lots of rhymes. We made Humpty Dumpty's with dangly legs and scary Incy Wincy Spiders!

We have just begun a topic called 'Me and My Family'. Thank you to everyone who has brought in baby photos for this topic. We are exploring how we grow and change, the differences between us and our senses. We have looked at our faces in a mirror and then mixed our paint to create realistic paintings of ourselves.
The other topics for the Autumn Term will be: Harvest Festival Houses and Homes. Bonfire Night and Fireworks we have created pictures with both a mixture of materials and on the computers using a paint package.
And finally Christmas.
The children will be visiting Smart Trees in December. The children will be orienteering and collecting tokens to trade at the wishing well. They will also visit Father Christmas.
Our nativity this year is the Innkeepers Breakfast. Our performances will be on Monday 10th December 2pm and Tuesday 11th December 10.00 am. Tickets are free of charge but will be limited to 3 per family and will be available on 3/4th December.
We are also having a 'Christmas Activity' afternoon on Monday 17th December at 2pm. Parents/Carers are invited in to work with their children on some festive activities. It should be a really fun afternoon and a chance to work with your child in school.
