EYFS ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014

SUMMER TERM

In the summer term we will be learning all about 'spring and growth'.  We will get the chance to grow some plants (and may be some vegetables) and look at the lifecycle of different creatures.

We will move on to learn about mini beasts.  This will include a trip to Bishop's Wood to find  Katy the Caterpillar and her friends  on Tuesday 20th May.  We will end the year looking at all kinds of transport, including land, water, air and space.  I wonder where we will travel to??????...

SPRING TERM

We have learnt all about the weather this term. We looked at cold, hot, windy and wet weather.  We found out about olden day washing techniques and designed a waterproof coat for Paddington bear using the most appropriate material.  We made kites, sailed boats and looked at different weather all around the world.  We particularly loved the story of 'Mr Wolf's week'.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed our new spring topic of 'Knights & Princesses'!  They have made crowns, shields and swords and practised jousting and made up their very own versions of 'we're going on a dragon hunt'.  We have made up and learnt medieval dances, as well as using the chime bars in music to pay 'A dragons very fierce' (to the tune of The Grand old Duke of York).

We loved joining in with World Book Day and the children had great fun dressed as their favourite characters.

AUTUMN TERM

All the children have settled in beautifully and are becoming more independent when organising their coats, book bags etc and learning to sit quietly and listen carefully to instructions.

We have started the term with our nursery rhymes and about me topics. In IT the children have been exploring the wonderful site Poisson Rouge which encourages navigation of sites and developing good mouse skills.

We were treated to the wonderful story of The Shining Star. The children were superb remembering where to stand on stage and delivering their lines from memory. Well done everyone.

Winter Wonderland - EYFS Family Challenge and Enterprise Day

The children and parents have been creating decorations to transform our Forest School area into a winter wonderland. Parents and children were invited to join the teachers after school and enjoy a walk and a warming cup of hot chocolate and most importantly, a biscuit!

Children in Need

EYFS staff kindly made a selection of delicious cakes to raise funds for Children in Need. Children enjoyed a fun day and were particularly excited to be dressing up! Parents were invited to the end of school cake sale and raised over £100. Thank you everyone.

Our Back to School Evening was very well attended and it was lovely to have another opportunity to meet up with parents and carers. We hope you found the evening useful. If you were not able to attend there are two links at the bottom of this page giving some useful information. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us

***********

We wish all the children a lovely break, they have worked extremely hard. We have loved seeing their baby photos and discussing how they have grown and changed.

We have retold the story of Elmer and discussed how it is good to be different. In ICT we created our own Elmer using a paint package.

We have talked about superheroes and their special powers and posed for photographs with our own choice of superpower. We have also recognised real life superheroes such as doctors, nurses, police and firemen.
