SUMMER TERM

Another super busy term with several exciting topics.  We loved our teddy bear topic.  We hosted a Teddy Bears Picnic for local nurseries, designed our own perfect teddy and wrote postcards to our Class Bear.

We have learnt how to programme Bee Bots and understood how important it is to be accurate with the instructions we give to reach a given target.  We looked inside one and saw the computer board and how the batteries supply power and drive the wheels.

In our Houses and Homes topic we saw how homes differ and built our own models to create a community of our own.

Our transport topic has seen us building our own infrastructure out in the Forest School area.  We have roads, railways, airports, bridges and much more.  We have written messages to aliens and launched them into space with our own rockets.  After hearing the Whatever Next book we have also written our own fabulous adventures.

During multi-cultural week we studied Russia and here is some of our Kandinsky inspired art work.

What a fabulous end to the term with our Pirate Day.  We created treasure maps, heard pirate stories and best of all had to 'walk the plank' which turned into a giant water fight!!!!  Some bright sparks found umbrellas!

SPRING TERM

The children are thoroughly enjoying this terms topics.  We have studied the weather talking about hot and cold climates and identifying countries in atlases and on the globes.  We have watched weather forecasts and, using a computer programme,  dressed a character in suitable out fits.

Our dinosaur topic always creates a great deal of excitement.  We have sorted the herbivores from the carnivores and found out their scientific names and discussed how these gigantic beasts roamed our plant many millions of years ago.

We continue with our daily lessons on phonics and in maths we have been looking at weight and length and the terminology used.

The children have enjoyed their Forest School sessions and our stir fry whilst celebrating Chinese New Year.

AUTUMN TERM

All the children have settled in beautifully and are becoming more independent when organising their coats, book bags etc and learning to sit quietly and listen carefully to instructions.

We have been focusing on Nursery Rhymes in particular Incey Wincey Spider and Humpty Dumpty.  We are working on fine motor skills in our handwriting.

Our all About Me looked at how we have grown up and how we are all different especially Elmer the Elephant!  We have investigated our senses tasting, smelling, listening to sounds and even a blind fold walk.

In Forest schools we have enjoyed the out of doors and have been inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy to create our own art work using natural materials.

We touched on the history of Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes and learnt how to stay safe with our own advisory posters and created beautiful bonfire night pictures using a computer drawing package.

We have looked at nocturnal animals such as the owl and hedgehog and read the delightful Owl Baby book.  We understand how hedgehogs protect themselves too!

As Christmas approaches we will be looking at 3D shape and parcels.  We will be entertaining you with our Nativity and have the wonderful Smart Trees trip to look forward to.
