Geography

“We are at a unique stage in our history; never before have we had the awareness of what we are doing to the planet and never before have we had the power to do something about that.”
— David Attenborough

At Northwick Manor Primary School, we believe that giving children strong foundations in Geography enables them to become curious, explorative thinkers who understand the importance of caring for all the interconnected aspects of our precious planet — in other words, to think like Geographers.

Our world faces increasing environmental and social challenges. In response, our Geography Curriculum prioritises learning about pollution, climate change, and the sustainability of human and physical environments, empowering pupils to recognise how their actions can make a difference.

We aim to develop pupils who are able to question, observe, measure, record, analyse, and present geographical information confidently and creatively. Through this, they build a secure understanding of how Geography shapes lives at local, national, and global levels — and over time.

We strive to nurture resourceful, compassionate citizens who are equipped with the knowledge, curiosity, and sense of responsibility to contribute positively to the world around them and to protect it for future generations.

We are proud of the diverse and vibrant local area in which our school is located. Our Geography Curriculum, supported by Lyfta, begins with a study of our local environment before extending outward to explore the wider world, its people, places, and environments. Children gain a strong knowledge of cities, countries, continents, oceans, and ecosystems, as well as an understanding of how humans impact these environments.

Our Geography units of work are sequenced to ensure pupils revisit, build on, and embed prior learning, beginning in the Early Years Foundation Stage and developing progressively through the school.
