The children are given a fruit snack in school.
Parents can pay for milk to be provided for their child.
Free school meals are provided for children in Year 2 but these must be ordered online beforehand. The children can also choose to bring in packed lunches if they prefer.
Trips and special events
Children in Year 2 enjoy a variety of trips as well as workshops where visitors come to the school.
Trips this year include:
A visit from Florence Nightingale (Autumn)
Problem solving and team building day (Spring)
All Things Wild (Summer)
Reading
In Year 2, your child will read with an adult at least once a week. The children will also participate in guided reading during the week; reading a challenging text with an adult. Alongside this, the children read a range of texts as a class, providing further opportunities for us to monitor and assess your child’s reading.
During the year, we will be focusing on decoding and reading the words but also understanding what we have read to develop our key comprehension skills. Please make sure that your child brings their reading book and diary into school each day.

Practical ways to support your child’s learning
We expect children to read at home on a daily basis in Year 2 and keep practising the rapid recall of their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
The children all have logins for Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars, which are both useful websites for practising their number facts.
Homework
Homework is given out every Friday and needs to be returned by Wednesday. The children are provided with a plastic folder to keep this in. Each week the task may include Maths, English or foundation subject activities. We aim to vary the tasks between written, practical and pictorial work.
PE
Our allocated days for PE this year are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday depending on the class they are in. Please ensure that your child arrives at school in their PE kit on these days.
Surgeries
An adult is available for quick messages on the cloakroom door each morning. If you wish to discuss something in greater detail or in private, each teacher has an appointed surgery time after school. You need to email or let them know that you wish to talk with them so they can ensure that the necessary time is given.

Specialist Lessons
Dance, Music and computing are taught by specialist teachers.
KS1 Assessments
In the Summer term, the children undertake KS1 SATs. These are referred to as quizzes to the children and they work in small groups in quiet areas around school to answer the questions to the best of their abilities. These results are then used as one piece of evidence to justify our teacher decisions about whether the children are working at the age related expectations.
