PSHE

At Northwick Manor Primary School, our intent is to provide all children with a rich, progressive PSHE education through the Jigsaw scheme, enabling them to become healthy, independent, and responsible members of society. We want every child to understand how they are developing personally and socially, and to recognise their value as individuals within a diverse and ever-changing world.

Through Jigsaw’s carefully structured, whole-school approach, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to make informed choices about their wellbeing, health, and relationships. Our intent is to help children develop resilience, self-esteem, empathy, and respect for others, preparing them for life and work in modern Britain.

The Jigsaw programme integrates Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) with emotional literacy, mindfulness, and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Each half term’s unit—known as a “Puzzle”—builds on prior learning to create a coherent spiral curriculum that supports children’s personal growth from Reception to Year 6.

We intend that, by the end of their primary journey, our pupils will:

  • Have a strong sense of self-worth and belonging.
  • Be able to manage their thoughts, feelings, and relationships positively and safely.
  • Understand how to stay healthy, both physically and mentally.
  • Value diversity and equality, showing respect and compassion for others.
  • Be ready to face challenges and take opportunities as responsible citizens of the future.

Our PSHE curriculum is not only a subject in its own right but also underpins the ethos of our school—creating a safe, caring environment where children feel valued, listened to, and empowered to thrive.
