R.E.
At Northwick Manor Primary School we believe the principal aim of Religious Education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live. Pupils should be given the opportunities to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and worldviews, and to be able to reflect on their own ideas and ways of living. Through ambitious, high-quality provision and a broad and balanced curriculum our intent is to:
- To make sense of different religious and non-religious views by learning what people believe, why they believe it, and how important texts and leaders guide those beliefs and worldviews.
- Understand how religious and non-religious worldviews shape people’s lives by exploring how they express their beliefs, act on them in daily life and communities, and value different ways of living and finding meaning.
- Connect ideas from different beliefs to their own thinking by asking questions, reflecting, and explaining their views clearly to prepare them for multicultural life in modern Britain.
Our Religious Education (R.E.) curriculum is structured around the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus and is built upon three core elements: making sense of beliefs; understanding the impact of beliefs (how and why people live out their beliefs); and making connections between pupils’ own lives and ways of understanding the world. These elements provide a clear framework for exploring a wide range of religious traditions alongside non-religious worldviews.
Pupils are supported in identifying recurring themes and concepts that link their learning across year groups. Many core units are revisited for deeper exploration, ensuring progression and a more comprehensive understanding over time. For example, the concept of the Trinity is introduced in Year 3 and explored in greater depth in Year 4. This approach enables pupils to build on prior knowledge and make meaningful connections throughout their learning journey.
Our ambition is that every pupil achieves their full potential.
