Year 2 ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014

SUMMER TERM

SPRING TERM

AUTUMN TERM

In English we have started our term looking at nonsense and pattern poetry and used other authors templates to create some our own. We will shortly be looking at how to create concise instructions. This will be linked into our healthy eating topic in which we will write instructions for and make our own delicious smoothies. There will also be an opportunity to understand how much the fruit costs and the coins we would need to pay for it.

Our science focus has been on healthy eating and growth. There has been a trip to the Think Tank in Birmingham and we visited the local supermarket to purchase the fruit for our smoothies. We made our own smoothies and linked this into our literacy instructions.
Our geography topic has been map reading and co ordinates alongside understanding what island is. We had a fabulous walk from school along the bank of the River Severn to visit Bevere Island. We learnt that the island had played an important role throughout history even with rumour of Viking battles. We have also been the reading the island stories of Katie Morag by Mairi Hedderwick.
In RE we have been learning about Jewish synagogues and the Ten Commandments. We have learnt about the importance of the Torah and made our own including writing our names in Hebrew.
n art we have studied portrait drawing along with tone and shade and line drawing. We have also created 3D models of fruit.
