SUMMER TERM

Our exciting topics for the summer term will include Ancient Greeks. There will be a talk by Mr Cadle as he immerses us into their lifestyles and our DT will involve creating our own masks. We will use a software programme to recreate one of the Greek myths as a comic strip and enjoy an archaeological dig. We will study  the solar system and in RE our topic will be Buddhism.

SPRING TERM

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you and your families. This term our main focus is water with an individual mantle project on flooding. The children will construct a miniature village and video the impact and unpredictable nature of a flood.
We will be using our ICT skills to prepare and film news reports and weather forecasts.  We will study Why the Whales Came and create our own fish, and design soap boxes with slogans and record a radio advert.
In DT we investigate the design and structure of bridges create our own designs using West Point Bridge Designer and then complete a challenge to see who can create the strongest bridge with the least amount of paper.

In science we learn to identify rocks and soils, looking at their locations and test of all testing to establish their properties.

AUTUMN TERM

Welcome to the Autumn term in Year 5. This term we learn all about the Victorians. From Dicken's characters in English to Victorian schools and past times in history - we fully immerse ourselves in the Victorian era! We even visit the Black Country Museum and make Victorian cam toys in Design Technology.
The children also love our Victorian Dragon's Den mantle project, where they work in teams to create suitcases filled with Victorian inventions. Will the Dragon's invest? We will study and compare a Victorian Christmas to our own.

In ICT have been looking at graphical modelling and have created various modes of Victorian Transport using Microsoft Publisher.

In science we learn abut gases all around us and in R.E. we study Islam and design 3D mosques in art.

Then before you know it, it's almost Christmas and as and enterprise project we plan and organise stalls for the Christmas Fayre.

Quick update - our budding entrepreneurs made a fabulous £496.12 towards school funds with a variety of very popular stalls. Well done everyone.

Class Assemblies will reflect the terms topics. 5GS entertained families and friends with their re-enactment of a Victorian Classroom with songs and times tables.

5AD will educate us in the eccentricities of the Victorian era.

As a finale to our swimming lessons we will be holding a gala on the 26th November to show case all our new water skills.

A very busy and fun term for Year 5!
